Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Its basal part is in an unconformable contact with the underlying Cambrian limestones; or unconformably on the Wafangdian Fm of ?Toarcian?.

Upper contact

Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Guiyunhua Fm. It is sporadically exposed but covered directly by the Quaternary System in most areas.

Regional extent

It is distributed in the Zhayao region east of the China Changchun Railway, including the Xiaoxingjiagou, Dengtun, Dagumiao, Wangjiatun and Tangjia areas.

GeoJSON

null

Fossils

It yields bivalves as represented by the Pseudocardinia-Psilunio assemblage, which comprises 9 species as represented by Pseudocardinia ventricosa, 3 species as represented by Tutuella chaohlovi, as well as Psilunio spp.; gastropods as represented by Bithynia sp.; vertebrates as represented by Manchurodon simpliedens; a small amount of plants such as Equisetum sp., Cladophlebis sp., Ginkgo ex gr. sibirica, Baiera sp., Sphenobaiera sp., Phoenicopsis angustifolia and Czekanowskia rigida; as well as spore-pollen fossils as represented by the Cyathidites-Asseretospora-Pseudopicea assemblage.

Age

Schematic strat column in the previous "red Chinese Lexicon" had implied that the Zhayao Fm spanned Middle Jurassic.
